Rebecca Barnard
Rebecca grew up listening to Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong. At 14, she became obsessed with Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan. When songwriting became a focus, Rebecca founded Rebecca’s Empire, a band that quickly became one of Australia’s favourites. The Empire toured extensively, releasing three EPS and two albums and appeared on Triple J’s Hottest 100 albums three years in a row.
Rebecca’s Empire disbanded in 2000 when the duties of being a mother took priority. During this time, Rebecca appeared on recordings by Paul Kelly, Tim Rogers, Renee Geyer, Deb Conway, The Meanies, Warped, The Audreys and many more.
Rebecca maintains regular appearances on SBS’s Rockwiz and the ABC’s Spicks and Specks and ABC Radio 774 co-hosting with Derek Guille. In 2006 Rebecca released her first solo album Fortified, on her own label, Ladybird. Her forthcoming album titled, Feel Good Sombre is due for release mid 2009.
