Dan Kelly
Hailing from the frontier lands of coastal Qld and now a long term resident of inner Melbourne, Dan Kelly has forged an intricate and humorous path into the hearts and minds of Australian music lovers over the last 6 years. His two records with indie supergroup The Alpha Males ( ‘…Sing the Tabloid Blues’ (2004) and ‘Drowning in the Fountain of Youth’ (2006)) have garnered rave reviews, 5 Aria nominations, an Inpress 2006 Album of the Year Award plus high airplay on JJJ and Community Radio everywhere. Dan’s hyper-narrative and melodic indie rock opuses have earned him the title of ‘the thinking woman’s hedonist’ in a land crying out for more interesting and pretentious titles.
Of late Dan has been wandering the wilderness in a sack cloth and flying goggles seeking half truths and songs for his upcoming new record - tentatively titled ‘The Decommissioner’- and playing the odd gig as guitarist with Paul Kelly (about 200!) and Augie March (about 15! )- as well as touring Australia in acoustic mode performing his down load only eco-smash ‘The SUV Song’ and back catalogue to packed houses around the country. Dan and Kev go back to the heady days of the late eighties Trinder Park Feral Arts scene, a heady time some now compare to Paris in the days after World War One, and he is delighted and honoured to be part of this great show.
